As a doula, I provide continuous care for you and your partner during your birth by offering physical, emotional and informational support. I am trained to understand the natural process of birth, respect it's spiritual, physical, and emotional aspects, and help facilitate your birth experience. I can provide prospective, make skilled suggestions for labor progression, coach in relaxation and positioning techniques, and provide genuine encouragement. Doula support contributes to the well being of mother, baby and father-before, during, and just after birth.
Did you know, studies reveal the presence of a doula can lead to a 60% reduction of use of epidural, 40% decrease in use of pitocin, 50% reduction in cesarean section, 30% decrease in use of forceps, 30% decrease in pain medications
In addition, long term benefits of a doula include, improved breastfeeding, decreased postpartum depression, greater maternal satisfaction, improved mom/baby bonding.
There are many unknowns throughout pregnancy and birth. Who will be my doctor at delivery? What kind of nurse will I have? How will I know if there are other options available? That's where I come in. I maintain a solo practice by design, allowing the ability to provide personal and consistent service to my clients. I get that this is an intimate and tender time; I remember it with my own babies. I intentionally keep my client load small each month, ensuring that I will almost always be the doula present at your birth. I am proud of my near 100% attendance statistic! I also respect and understand privacy desires around childbirth and have supported high-profile clients with unique needs in the past. With almost a decade experience as a solo, full-time doula, I trust that I can support you during this most precious time. Reach out and let's get to know each other!
I offer four unique doula packages. All of the available packages include the benefits listed to the right. Upgraded packages can include natural childbirth preparation services and/or placenta encapsulation. À la carte services are additionally available. I am here for you.
To secure your spot on my calendar, I request half of the doula package you choose as a deposit at contract signing and the remaining balance due at 38 weeks. Alternative payment arrangements can be made if there's a better plan for your family.
Please note: Repeat client (YAY!): Prior contract price is almost always honored and discounts apply if you are are birthing at home with a recommended midwife or are in an active duty military family. Contact me for more info!

"Do you make decisions on my behalf?
I do not make decisions for parents or intervene in a your clinical care, as I am not your health care professional. I will support you in your discussions and help you get the information necessary to make an informed decision. Based on my experience as a doula, I can share with you previous experiences and decisions other clients have made in similar situations. Ultimately, your medical decisions are made between you and your health care professional.
"What factors contribute to my overall satisfaction in childbirth?"
In considering whether to hire a doula, it may be helpful to consider the results of a systematic review of women's satisfaction in childbirth published in 2002. It finds that the following four factors make the greatest contribution to a woman's satisfaction in childbirth:
* Having good support from caregivers
* Having a high-quality relationship with caregivers
* Being involved in decision-making about care
* Having better-than-expected experiences, or having high expectations.
This is exactly what a doula does when attending a birth. We preserve what is most important about your experience and strive to allow you the best possible scenario for your desired birth.
"Did you take the photos on your website?"
My website includes photos I've taken at births, submissions from former clients and many black and whites from the amazingly talented, Meghan Hale, a local birth photographer I highly recommend and who's worth her weight in gold.
I have served hundreds of families since 2009 and I am always in awe of the power of how doulas help families. It's such an amazing gig! It has been a joy to share in so many birth experiences and I consider it an honor should I be on this journey with you.

I provide my clients with a TENS unit to borrow if the so desire. At out last prenatal visit, I will bring and leave with you a Neuro Trac Labour TENS unit for you to use once labor begins. Also included are the necessary electrode pads and convenient carrying case for easy transport in labor. Many of my clients find the TENS unit particularly helpful.
